What is strong authentication?

👉 What is strong authentication?

Adopted in 2018, PSD2 is a European directive 🇪🇺 thatincreases the security of online purchases 🔐

👉 How does this directive work?

Entering your card codes and using the 3D Secure protocol via SMS will no longer suffice ✋

Some banks have already set up spaces in their applications.

But for those without a smartphone, a text message accompanied by a permanent password, or a box supplied by the bank granting a single-use code, are possible solutions.

The idea of using facial, voice or digital recognition is also mooted 📱

To date, according to a Natixis study, strong authentication is only implemented for 30% of Internet purchases. Yet e-commerce is booming, especially since the health crisis has forced consumers to stay at home or limit their trips to the stores 🤯

This is why, since April 15, 2021, strong authentication has been implemented for all payments over 100 euros, and from May 15, for all payments, whatever the amount.

👉 What are the consequences of such a directive?

Many retailers are worried about a drop in sales 😨

💡 Indeed, this strong authentication calls for several players to collaborate. The customer is transported from page to page. Not only can he give up if the process takes too long, but the risk of payment failure is multiplied 🤯

In addition, foreign sites selling in France will have to adapt to this new rule.

At European level, this should be fine, as the directive applies in many countries. Good students like the Nordic countries have already made it a standard ✅ But what about the USA or England?

Off-line players also seem to have been left out of this directive. Unlike sectors already omnipresent on the net, they have not made this subject a development priority 😕
