How to manage moments of uncertainty?

Entrepreneurship is a challenge that few people choose to take up, because it's a major decision that involves risks and a major commitment to one's personal life. The world of work is constantly changing. Over the course of their careers, independent entrepreneurs are constantly called into question. They are often plagued by self-doubt, and this is only natural. Being too sure of yourself is even harmful. A company that wants to be sustainable cannot remain static; it has to adapt to the market, evolve and reinvent itself. So how can you avoid moments of uncertainty? Uncertainty is an integral part of management. However, it is possible to manage it more effectively. Let's see how, by identifying the causes of uncertainty and how to deal with them.

Isolation

This feeling can be experienced when you don't find enough support around you. Hence the need for support, and not just during the start-up phase. It would be wrong to think that only entrepreneurs need support. At any point in a company's life, whether to develop its business or simply to maintain it, it's in the entrepreneur's interest to be well supported.

Without support, a feeling of vulnerability is likely to emerge. We all know that self-employed workers are lonely people, since by definition they have no colleagues to work with. This solitude, inherent to their status, is sometimes difficult to accept at times when crucial decisions need to be made.

It's in these uncertain times that the support of those around you is indispensable. Family, friends, even other entrepreneurs or employees play an important role, provided they are at least a little involved. If you're not familiar with the situation, you run the risk of sowing even more confusion in the mind of the decision-maker.

Right from the start, joining an entrepreneurial network, a trade association or a business association, for example, is a step that is bound to pay dividends sooner or later.

Chambers of commerce and industry, chambers of trade, management boutiques, as well as numerous local networks (to be researched on the Internet) are all sources of help that should not be overlooked.

The difficulty of taking action

Depending on their personalities, the weight of responsibility can sometimes be too much to bear. Some people may lack self-confidence, be afraid of making a mistake, of making the wrong choice.

It's a trait that can hold a business owner back. But action is an excellent way of reducing anxiety. The best way to deal with uncertainty is not to avoid it or put it off until tomorrow. Of course, this doesn't mean rushing into things. Being reactive doesn't mean acting in a hurry, without thinking.

Here again, you can get help from your chartered accountant, a consulting firm, a business mentor or any other structure. But above all, it's an effort you have to make yourself.

Ignoring problems, running away from reality like an ostrich burying its head in the sand, obviously leads to nothing positive. Uncertainty in the professional world is omnipresent. More so in the creation phase, of course, but also in the face of any change.

Every major decision is based on both the awareness of taking a risk and the choice of an appropriate strategy. This is normal, and we need to be aware of it: there can be no business management without uncertainty!

Lack of knowledge

When uncertainty arises, it's sometimes because you haven't mastered your subject sufficiently. That's where all the outside advice comes in, and it's best to listen to it before choosing the best solution.

Gathering as much information as you can from the Internet (and weighing it up), reading specialist magazines and manuals, or taking a course in an area where you're lacking, are all steps you can take to avoid doubts.

It is sometimes necessary to recruit, even on a temporary basis, competent collaborators to whom you can entrust certain tasks that are too technical or complex. Delegating, while always remaining the final decision-maker, allows you to offload some of your responsibilities.

Successful entrepreneurs have learned to strengthen their minds. A strong mind is the result of sufficient recognition from those around you, good self-esteem and indisputable competence in your field. Entrepreneurship will only be in harmony with the inevitable uncertainty when there is adaptation to the environment, not confrontation. Market fluctuations, customer fickleness, fierce competition and technological evolution will no longer have any impact on the entrepreneur who has developed the ability to find the best options and look at the positives.
