How to set up an association

Would you like to set up your own association, but don't really know what steps to take? Anytime will explain everything and help you set up your project. 💥

Drafting by-laws 📝

The first step is to draw up the articles of association for your future association. These must be drawn up by at least two people (7 minimum in Alsace-Moselle).

These articles of association must mention :

  • Association title, purpose, duration and registered office address
  • Conditions for admission and exclusion of members
  • Rules governing the organization and operation of the association, and the powers vested in the members responsible for its administration.
  • Conditions for amending the bylaws and dissolving the association
  • Rules for allocating the association's assets in the event of dissolution (voluntary, statutory, judicial or by decree)

You must also name :

  • A President, responsible for managing and representing the association
  • A Treasurer, to ensure the smooth running of finances and assist the Chairman
  • A secretary, in charge of the association's administrative operations

Note: it is not advisable to enter information that may be subject to rapid modification, such as personal details (founders' contact details) or membership fees.

Registered address for your association 🏠

Choosing a registered office address is a compulsory step.

You have several options:

  • personal home,
  • own premises,
  • an association center
  • or a domiciliation company

Declaring your association 🗣

You must declare your association through a representative or a person in charge of administration. You can do this online, in person (at the Greffe des Associations) or by post.

The documents requested are :

  • A form for prior declaration of an association
  • A declaration of the list of directors
  • A declaration of the list of member associations (in the case of a union or federation of associations)

Once your documents have been validated, we'll send you a receipt for your association's declaration, containing an RNA number (your identification number).

Registering your association 🧳

You need to register your association if you wish to :

  • Apply for government and local authority grants
  • Employ employees
  • Carrying out activities that lead to the payment of VAT or corporation tax

Once the Siren registration formalities have been completed, the association receives a SIREN number.

Publication in an official journal of associations 🗞

You must publish an announcement in an official journal for associations to notify the public of the creation of your association. This process has been free of charge since January 1, 2020.

At the time of publication, the newspaper will issue you with a witness of publication (which may be necessary to prove publication and for other purposes).

Do all these procedures seem complicated? Anytime is now one of the few 100% online players to accept the opening of pro accounts for associations. 💥
