Businesses: how to benefit from the conversion bonus?

The conversion bonus is conditional on the scrapping of a petrol or diesel vehicle, and provides assistance of up to 5,000 euros towards the purchase of a more environmentally-friendly car. What are the conditions for companies to benefit from this scheme? Here are the answers to these questions.

Conversion bonus: definition and amount

The "prime à la conversion", or scrappage bonus, is a subsidy granted to companies owning old diesel or petrol vehicles who agree to replace them with less polluting new or used vehicles.

The amount of the bonus is :

  • 1,500 for a new or used passenger car or VSAP,
  • 2,500 for a car,
  • 5,000 for a van.

The amount therefore varies according to the type of vehicle purchased and the applicant's situation.

Who can apply for a conversion premium?

The conversion bonus is available to all professionals wishing to renew their vehicle fleet in favor of less polluting vehicles.

This aid can be combined with the "bonus écologique ", an aid of up to 7,000 euros for the purchase of a new or used electric vehicle, or a new rechargeable hybrid vehicle.

What are the conditions for obtaining a conversion premium?

Two conditions concerning the vehicles purchased are required to obtain a conversion premium:

  • New or used vehicles purchased must be electric or rechargeable hybrid;
  • These vehicles must have a range of over 50 km.

The government also specifies the conditions applicable to scrapped vehicles:

  • Whether it's a private or commercial vehicle, it must be taken to an approved ELV (end-of-life vehicle) processing center, and its weight must not exceed 3.5 tons.
  • It must be a diesel vehicle registered before 01/01/2011 (Crit'Air 3 and above) or a petrol vehicle registered before 01/01/2006 (Crit'Air 3 and above).
  • The scrapped car must have been purchased less than a year ago and be covered by a valid insurance policy.

Once an application has been submitted via the teleservice, it is possible to continue the process in a fully paperless way via FranceConnect, or in a semi-documented way by sending the necessary supporting documents by post.

The aid is paid a maximum of once per company until January 1, 2023.
