As it does every year, Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr takes stock of the main cyber risks. In its latest report, Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr, in partnership with France Num, takes a look back at the trends and highlights of 2023, targeting cyber-attack companies.
What are the biggest threats facing businesses?
To coincide with the publication of its annual activity report, Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr has listed the main threats facing businesses in 2023.
Hacking is the main cyber-attack for which companies have required on-site assistance. It accounts for 23.5% of all attacks.
Phishing (21%) and ransomware attacks (17% ) also top the list. Phishing consists in inciting the victim to perform an action in order to recover personal or confidential data. Ransomware, on the other hand, refers to attacks aimed at blocking the victim's device and demanding a sum of money in exchange for unlocking it. This type of attack is more likely to affect businesses, given their greater solvency.
Attacks on business websites, already identified in 2022, maintain their position in the rankings established by the cyber-malware action plan. Searches for assistance with defacement attacks have risen by 61%, and for denial-of-service attacks by 41%.
Data breaches remain stable in proportion, but have risen sharply in volume (+38%).
The top 10 cyber threats to businesses in 2023 are :
- account hacking,
- phishing,
- ransomware,
- false transfer orders,
- data breach,
- website defacement,
- denial of service,

What to do in the face of a cyber attack
Companies targeted by a cyber attack can take several precautions to protect themselves:
- request a diagnosis on the Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr website;
- back up their data and software installed on their information systems;
- never pay the ransom;
- notify the CNIL in the event of a personal data breach; file a complaint.
Companies can also consult the cybersecurity guide published by the Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information (ANSSI) in partnership with the Direction générale des entreprises (DGE).
